Alamy launch new “Novel Use Scheme”

I have just read the news regarding Alamy’s new scheme with both interest and caution. Quite often clients may enquire about purchasing images on their own terms, in other words they have priced up the image(s) using the normal pricing model and have decided that its not quite what they were expecting. So they approach Alamy to try and “do a deal” which is normally turned down point-blank.

Alamy must be getting more and more of these requests and have now decided that they should give such deals consideration with the contributors consent only.

What has bought this about? Are microstock sites to blame for this change of tack? If so surely this is bad news for us stock photographers or am I panicking unnecessarily?
